The Narcissist

I read a meme on facebook that said:

“Narcissist’s do not accept children having their own individuality.  Any individual idea will be rejected and discouraged continuously,  until the child give in to what the parent wants.  The child will be ridiculed for their choice of clothing, career, friends, person they date, or anything the parent does not approve of.  The child must conform to what the parent wants or they will be rejected and treated as though they are inadequate.”

This really resonated with me.   This has been my life.  And it has extended to relationships outside of the parent/child relationship.   In all walks of my life I have given in to the wishes of others.  Always felt inadequate.

Happiness Triggers

Facebook and it’s memes  😊   I saw another one that said:    Knowing our happiness triggers can be just as important as knowing our anger triggers.   And the graphic showed examples of happiness triggers ….. clean sheets;  a hug;  a favourite meal;  sunshine;  an act of kindness.    This got me to thinking.  We are often looking for the overall feeling of happy life,  and it seems so far out of reach at times.   What if we were to identify happiness triggers as the little things that make us feel good in the moment.  Just in the moment.   Maybe if we notice the little ‘in the moment’ happiness triggers they’ll pile up and become a day of happy,  or a week of happy.    So I started thinking of what my happiness triggers might be.   Things that I remember bringing me contentment and a smile …….

  • Ø a hug from a friend
  • Ø  clean sheets and/or pillow cases
  • Ø  a nice meal
  • Ø  sitting out in the sunshine
  • Ø  warm sunshiny days
  • Ø  a song I like
  • Ø  a nice cup of tea
  • Ø  a warm wind blowing in the car window on a nice day
  • Ø  a walk in the woods/nature
  • Ø  mowing the property with the riding mower
  • Ø  lunch dates with my cousin
  • Ø  money in the bank
  • Ø  happy dogs
  • Ø  listening to the horses/donkey’s eating
  • Ø  walking with the horses
  • Ø  hugging the donkey’s
  • Ø  video’s of baby elephants and other baby animals

I’m sure I can think of more if I keep reflecting on it.    I’m going to try to notice the happiness triggers.   Those moments of contentment.  The moments that bring a smile, if only fleetingly.
